we're NEVER getting home.....
My baby brother is 15...which means car shopping. My mom has looked at several cars...I've looked at several with her. She calls me this week and says that she has found one in Georgia somewhere and wants to go look at it Friday. Dad works until Sunday, so she asks me to go with her. Sure, I'll go....
'Good, it's a 3 hour drive'...ok...don't they have cars in Augusta?? Oh well....
It's Friday, I'm done with visits...and we're off...kinda...
My baby brother is like a 'special' monkey trained by a not-so-bright person when it comes to getting ready :/
First...he has to decide if he's going or not...'I don't wanna go', 'I'll go', '3 hours? I'm not going', 'I'm hungry', 'I'm going'...for goodness sake, can we pick a personality and just run with that one??
Second...the boy has to become presentable...'It is a shirt', 'But this undershirt is big enough and thick enough to just wear as a shirt', 'I don't have a shirt', 'Where's my shirt', 'Do I have shoes?'...oh good, the special monkey is on a scavenger hunt...
Third...we have to get there...
'Where do I go?'
'It says you go straight for 40 miles'
'Do I turn there?'
'How many miles have you gone?'
'Oh, I've only gone 3 miles'...
'Where do I go?'
'Straight for 40 miles'
'Oh, I've only gone 13 miles' :)
We get there!!!! We get in the car for a test drive...I notice that it's on empty, but no one else seems worried about this so I'm good. Then mom asks 'it's on empty...how much further can we go?' The guy's response????
'Well, if we run outta gas, we'll make someone bring us some. We drive cars on empty tanks all day long'
Really???? I'm here to tell you...cars WILL run outta gas...it's not just a cautionary tale, it DOES happen.
Mom takes the car all over the place...ending up on a side street in some little neighborhood. She asks the guy 'Where do I turn to go back to the dealership?' The guy's response????
'I reckon I'd go straight...I don't know these side roads, they all look the same to me'
Really???? Aren't YOU the local here?
We get back to the dealership. The car has a 'bump' when it turns...the mechanic looks at it and explains where the 'bump' is coming from. They bring the car down off the rack and we take it for another spin...after we get gas.
Mom decides to get the car...actually, it seemed that she had decided to not get the car...then sat in the dealer's office and signed all the paperwork to get the car. Mom asks for the title...the guy says they mail the title after the check has cleared...it's a REGISTERED CHECK...no clearing necessary.
Some guy walks through the office and asks if everything is ok, Mom states that she wants the title.......guy comes back with the title and hands it over.....well, looky there....someone knows what they're doing!
Not so fast....
Mom noticed that he didn't sign the title...she asks about it.....guy says 'We don't sign it over...the DMV does that'....
Really???? Because I'm pretty sure the DMV doesn't sign over cars....Mom's pretty sure too....but we trust them.....well, not really.....but we leave with the unsigned title.
We program home in GPS and set off....the GPS isn't taking us the way we came....we go down this road, and turn around....we go down that road, and turn around....we stop at a gas station, and turn around...
Mom is still uncomfortable about the title...we turn around one more time to go back to the dealership...
After MUCH explaining...someone FINALLY signs the title over...we leave again...
How does an ENTIRE car dealership NOT know how to sign over a title?? 'Well, I mean, I'll sign it if it'll make you feel better'...would it make her feel better if she actually owned the car she just paid for??????
GEEZ
With an exhausting ride home that included phrases like 'we're in commerce hell and we're never getting home', and 'you will not take a dump in your new car'...the adventure is done and the car is home.....

but baby, everyone else's wife...
My job gives me a lot of wiggle room in my schedule...if I don't have kids to see, there's no office that I have to be in. When I can, I join my hubby for lunch.
On Tuesday, I woke up sick. I laid around the house trying to shake it off before my visits. The hubby wishes me well and goes off to work. I eventually feel better and start my day.
Around 1, I get a call from the hubby...to make sure I'm ok???
NO...' So, uh, what's the plan for lunch?'
Well, my plan is to work through lunch, & I'm feeling much better, thanks for asking...
' But baby, everyone else's wife came for lunch today...'
Ugh, ok, I can be there around 3:30 for a late lunch...
We go to Rhinehart's...their credit card machines are down so the hubby goes to the back to try to fix it...after sitting at the bar for about an hour and a half returning calls and texts, the hubby figures out that the cable has been cut and calls the cable guy...
At 5, we sit down for the ' late' lunch...
GOOD GRIEF

Happy Anniversary...just another day :(
5 years ago, on December 31, 2005; I married my honey. We'd been dating like 4 years and had a beautiful post-Christmas wedding. The sanctuary was still decorated for Christmas and there was silver everywhere...I LOVE silver!!! We didn't go on a honeymoon because Paul's family was in town and we were both new to our jobs and didn't want to try to take the time off.
I think that's the reason we always try to get out of town for our anniversary...
Year 1 - Bahamas....great trip!!!
Year 2 - Edgefield Grill...not exactly out of town, but a 5 course meal with wine pairings.
Year 3 - Myrtle Beach...actually not so much fun to go in the winter, but a nice getaway.
Year 4 - Chattanooga...Ruby Falls, lighted Rock City, wonderful B&B.
Year 5 - this is where the blog comes in...we planned to stay in town...
Paul had Friday off, so we had planned to go to several movies to catch up and have dinner with one of the gift cards that we received. I planned the times for the movies and was super excited. Sometimes, its less stressful not to go out of town...especially when it seems that we JUST unpacked from Disney (woohoo!).
So, the hubs says that he needs to do an install Thursday night but would be home sometime Friday morning. The pups were happy because they got to sleep on his side of the bed, however, I wasn't as happy. But, I replanned the movie times...everything's good.
I woke up Friday morning late, but no Paul...I called him...still working
I finish the massive laundry resulted from the massive donation...I call Paul...still working
Long story short...the hubby gets home around 2 and goes straight to bed...
He wakes up close to 6...no movie...just sitting on the couch...
We did go to the hockey game (GO RIVERHAWKS), but that's not blogful...we usually go every weekend...
But at this point, it's not really that big of a deal. In the 5 years we've been married and the 9 years we've been together, we've seen everything from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the valley. I only hope that mark 5 sees us on top on Everest :-)
Happy 5th Anniversary, Paulie

end of year donations...
We moved into this house almost 4 years ago. We had a lot more room when we moved in and had the luxury of not having to unpack everything since we had more than enough room to keep boxes...almost 4 years later, there are still boxes...
We even have a super-sized U-Haul box in the laundry room of clothes. Not clothes that have been washed and not put up...clothes that have never been unpacked.
The hubs thinks its a good idea to get all the clothing together for the end of this year to make one mega-donation. I REALLY don't want to...but the hubs has a point, especially since every tax break will help after all the unemployment Paul was on this year.
So, we decide to start on Sunday, the day after Christmas. I begin pulling out clothes and filling up the living room with items we haven't seen in 4 years. The hubs starts feeling a kidney stone moving. We knew this would eventually happen, when he went in for the last kidney stone, the scan showed another one. Paul wants to go to the hospital for Rx drugs directly injected into his blood stream....
I see the opportunity to strike a deal...call be a bad wife if you want, but I REALLY didn't want to do this. I tell the hubby that we can go to the hospital, but then we can't start sorting through the massive hill of clothes now sitting in the living room....yay, I got him!!
BUT...the hubs says he'll be ok with the pain meds we have at the house...OH NO!!!
So, not only did I not get out of it...I have to do it solo because the hubby is out of commission.
I sort through clothes for about and hour and a half...counting articles and taking pictures of everything that we donate.
The next day...I start to develop a small skin irritation. GREAT...some of those clothes must have had a different detergent on them and it has made my sensitive skin a little angry.
As the days go by,,, my skin gets angrier...by Wednesday, its a full blow head to toe breakout rash........I KNEW I HAD A BAD FEELING ABOUT THIS!!!
We decide that someone had to push through to finish sorting through the clothes...not only is the huge pile of rags in the middle of my living room floor threatening my OCD, but the end of the year is quickly approaching.
Wouldn't you know it...the hubs has to go on an overnight work thingy on December 30, leaving me and my angry skin to finish sorting through the clothes.
So....this is how it worked.......
1. The hubby wants to do a massive donation but the wife does not.
2. The wife pulls out all the clothes and sorts them.
3. The wife gets an allergic reaction to the clothes.
4. The wife documents all the clothes.
5. The wife takes pics of all the clothes.
6. The wife washes all the clothes that are kept.
7. The wife puts up all the clothes that are kept.
8. The wife blogs her frustration out while waiting for the last load to get out of the dryer.
9. The hubby takes a nap.........
The hubby BETTER offer to take all the clothes to Good Will.....grrrrr

SnowTastic!!!
At about 4am on Sunday, the snow started to fall.....at our house in South Carolina. I woke up at 8ish and sat outside bundled up on the front porch watching the snow fall. It was GORGEOUS!! Even the Minnesota hubby was impressed :)
It wasn't sticking until around noon, and then continued to snow and stick for the next couple of hours. The snow went from flurries to flakes and back again...so exciting!!!
Except that I had a head cold (still working on that one) and the hubby was passing a stone. On top of that, we were both dedicated to cleaning out the utility room and organizing a massive clothes donation. After a couple of hours of cleaning through dusty boxes...my head cold wasn't any better.
So...we didn't get to play in the snow because we were busy and didn't feel like it. You can tell how sick I felt since I ALWAYS play in the snow when given the opportunity :)
There is a little inconvenience that goes with snow at home...we WANTED Chinese food, but I wasn't driving in the ice and snow...
...we WANTED to go to Target, but I wasn't driving in the ice and snow...
I even had to delay my visits Monday morning due to frozen roads...
A total inconvenience...but completely SNOWTASTIC!!!
